The Fall was an English post-punk band formed in 1976 in Manchester by Mark E. Smith. Their third studio album, "Grotesque (After the Gramme)", was released on November 17, 1980, and reached number one on the UK Independent Chart, where it remained for 29 weeks. The album was recorded at Cargo Studios in Rochdale and Street Level Studios in London. Production was handled by the band members along with Geoff Travis, Grant Showbiz, and Mayo Thompson. The album features tracks such as "Pay Your Rates", "New Face in Hell", and "The N.W.R.A.". Musically, it is characterized as post-punk, lo-fi, experimental rock, and art punk.
