The Gathering is a Dutch rock band formed in 1989 in Oss. Initially playing atmospheric doom metal, they transitioned to gothic metal with the 1995 album "Mandylion," featuring new vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen. Their style later evolved towards alternative and progressive rock, evident in albums like 1998's "How to Measure a Planet?" After van Giersbergen's departure in 2007, Silje Wergeland joined as the lead vocalist, and the band released "The West Pole" in 2009.
