The Idle Race was a British rock band from Birmingham, active between 1959 and 1972. Originally known as The Nightriders, the band changed its name to The Idle Race in 1966. Their debut album, "The Birthday Party," was released in 1968, followed by "Idle Race" in 1969 and "Time Is" in 1971. The band was known for its psychedelic rock style and played a significant role in the British Midlands pop-rock scene. Jeff Lynne, who later became famous as a member of Electric Light Orchestra, was a key member of the band before his departure in 1970.
