The Thing is a Norwegian-Swedish jazz trio consisting of Mats Gustafsson (saxophones), Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (double bass), and Paal Nilssen-Love (drums). The group was formed in February 2000 during a series of concerts in Stockholm and a recording of Don Cherry compositions. Their repertoire includes works by artists such as James Blood Ulmer, Frank Lowe, PJ Harvey, and the White Stripes. In 2001, they released the album "She Knows..." with Joe McPhee. They have also collaborated with artists like Ken Vandermark, Otomo Yoshihide, and Thurston Moore. In 2012, they released "The Cherry Thing" with Neneh Cherry. Their discography includes albums like "Garage" (2004), "Action Jazz" (2006), and "Boot!" (2013).
