The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1964. The original lineup consisted of Lou Reed (vocals, guitar), John Cale (viola, bass guitar, keyboards), Sterling Morrison (guitar, bass guitar), and Maureen Tucker (drums). Their 1967 debut album, "The Velvet Underground & Nico," produced by Andy Warhol, is considered one of the most influential in rock history. The band is known for its experimental approach and lyrics addressing topics such as drugs and urban life. In 1996, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
