Thelma Carpenter was an American jazz singer and actress, known for her collaborations with Count Basie and her role as Miss One in the film The Wiz. Born in 1922 in Brooklyn, she began her career in the 1930s. She sang with the orchestras of Teddy Wilson and Coleman Hawkins, later joining Count Basie from 1943 to 1945. In 1945, she became the first African American singer to regularly perform on the Eddie Cantor Show. Her discography includes albums such as "A Souvenir" and "Thinking of You Tonight".
