Throwing Muses is an American alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Newport, Rhode Island. Originally fronted by stepsisters Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly, they were known for their unorthodox song structures and surreal lyrics. Notable albums include "Throwing Muses" (1986), "House Tornado" (1988), and "The Real Ramona" (1991). The band was the first American group signed to the British label 4AD. After Donelly's departure in 1991, Hersh continued the band as a trio. In 2025, they released the album "Moonlight Concessions".
