Tyshawn Sorey is an American composer, multi-instrumentalist, and professor of contemporary music. His work spans a wide range of genres, from improvised percussion to opera. Notable albums include "That/Not" (2007), "Koan" (2009), "Oblique – I" (2011), and "Alloy" (2014). Sorey is known for his experimental approach to music and has collaborated with artists such as Vijay Iyer, Roscoe Mitchell, and Anthony Braxton. In 2017, he was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, and in 2024, he received the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his composition "Adagio (for Wadada Leo Smith)."
