cd - UMO Jazz Orchestra
UMO Jazz Orchestra is a Finnish big band founded in 1975 by Heikki Sarmanto and Esko Linnavalli. The name UMO stands for "Uuden Musiikin Orkesteri" (New Music Orchestra). The ensemble is renowned for its ability to interpret a wide range of jazz styles, from traditional big band to modern and experimental jazz forms. Throughout its history, it has collaborated with numerous prominent jazz artists, including Kenny Wheeler and Norma Winstone. The 2000 album "One More Time" exemplifies such collaboration, featuring the orchestra performing Wheeler's compositions with Winstone's vocals. UMO Jazz Orchestra is considered one of Europe's leading big bands and has significantly contributed to the promotion of Finnish music both domestically and internationally.
