Urban Village is a South African band from Soweto, comprising Tubatsi Mpho Moloi, Lerato Lichaba, Xolani Mtshali, and Simangaliso Dlamini. Their music blends traditional Zulu guitar styles, indie-folk, maskandi, South African choirs, and jazz. Their debut album, "Udondolo," was released in January 2021 under the Parisian label Nø Førmat! and was recorded at the legendary Downtown Studios in Johannesburg. The album features tracks like "Izivunguvungu," "Dindi," and "Ubaba." The band focuses on social themes and historical narratives, with their music reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of South Africa.
