Willem Breuker was a Dutch saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer known for his contributions to avant-garde jazz and contemporary classical music. In 1967, he co-founded the Instant Composers Pool with Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink. In 1974, he established the Willem Breuker Kollektief, blending jazz, cabaret, and theater. He composed over 500 works for theater, opera, and film. He ran his own record label, BVHaast, and was a recognized authority on Kurt Weill's work. In 1998, he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion.
