cd - William Byrd
William Byrd was an English composer of the Renaissance era, known for his contributions to the development of the English madrigal and keyboard music. His works include collections such as "Cantiones Sacrae" and "Gradualia". Byrd was a pupil of Thomas Tallis, and together they obtained a monopoly on music printing in England. Despite the religious turmoil of the time, Byrd composed extensive works for both Catholic and Anglican liturgies. His music influenced later composers like John Bull and Orlando Gibbons.
