Witchfinder General is a British heavy metal band formed in 1979 in Stourbridge, England. Recognized as pioneers of doom metal, they were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement. Their debut album, "Death Penalty" (1982), and its follow-up, "Friends of Hell" (1983), are considered seminal recordings in the genre. The band was heavily influenced by Black Sabbath, with music characterized by heavy guitar riffs and dark lyrics.
