Captain Beefheart, born Don Van Vliet, was an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his unique blend of blues, free jazz, and avant-garde rock. Between 1967 and 1982, he released 13 studio albums with his group, The Magic Band. His 1969 album "Trout Mask Replica" is considered one of the most influential works in rock music history. After retiring from music, he pursued a career in visual arts, with his abstract expressionist paintings exhibited in galleries worldwide.
