Cranes is a British rock band formed in 1985 in Portsmouth, England, by siblings Alison and Jim Shaw. The band is known for its unique sound that blends elements of dream pop, gothic rock, and shoegaze. Their debut album, "Wings of Joy" (1991), reached number 52 on the UK Albums Chart. Subsequent albums "Forever" (1993) and "Loved" (1994) solidified their position in the alternative music scene. After a hiatus in the late 1990s, the band returned in 2000 with new material and has continued to create music since. In 2023, they released the compilation "John Peel Sessions 1989-1990".
