Lightnin' Hopkins, born Samuel John Hopkins on March 15, 1912, in Centerville, Texas, was a prominent American country blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He began his recording career in 1946, releasing numerous albums over the following decades, including "Lightnin' and the Blues" (1959), "Mojo Hand" (1960), and "Free Form Patterns" (1968). His music, characteristic of Texas blues, influenced many musicians such as Townes Van Zandt and Stevie Ray Vaughan. In 1980, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
