Ray Noble was an English jazz and big band musician who served as a bandleader, composer, and arranger. His most notable compositions include "The Very Thought of You" and "Cherokee". In 1929, he became the leader of the New Mayfair Dance Orchestra, collaborating with vocalist Al Bowlly. In 1934, Noble moved to the United States, where his orchestra performed at the Rainbow Room in New York City. He later pursued acting and comedy. In 1987, he was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame, and in 1996, into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
