The Damned is a British rock band formed in London in 1976. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Brian James, bassist Captain Sensible, and drummer Rat Scabies. The band is known as the first British punk group to release a single (“New Rose” in 1976) and an album (“Damned Damned Damned” in 1977) and to tour the United States. Their musical style encompasses punk rock, gothic rock, and psychedelic rock. Notable albums include “Machine Gun Etiquette” (1979), “Phantasmagoria” (1985), and “Darkadelic” (2023).
