24-Carat Black was an American soul and funk band from Cincinnati, Ohio, active in the early 1970s. Their 1973 debut album, "Ghetto: Misfortune's Wealth," produced by Dale Warren, is considered one of the first concept albums in the soul genre. Despite initial commercial failure, the album gained cult status and has been frequently sampled by hip-hop artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, and Dr. Dre. In 2009, a second album, "Gone: The Promises of Yesterday," featuring unreleased recordings from 1973–1974, was released. Some members later formed the band Shotgun, which recorded six albums between 1977 and 1982.
