Alain Planès is a French pianist born in Lyon. He studied in Lyon and later in Paris with Jacques Février. He was the soloist of the Ensemble intercontemporain under Pierre Boulez until 1981. His recording of Claude Debussy's Préludes was voted classical record of the year at the Victoires de la musique classique in 1986. His discography includes works by composers such as Debussy, Chopin, Bartók, and Haydn. In 2024, he released a recording of Gabriel Fauré's piano works.
