Alexander Baillie is an English cellist, born on January 6, 1956, in Stockport, England. He began playing the cello at the age of twelve, inspired by Jacqueline du Pré. Baillie studied at the Royal College of Music in London and later with André Navarra in Vienna. He has performed with major British orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Baillie has premiered works by contemporary composers such as Penderecki and Henze. His recordings include Elgar's Cello Concerto and Britten's cello suites.
