Ambrose Akinmusire is an American jazz trumpeter and composer. In 2007, he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition. His debut album, "Prelude... to Cora," was released in 2008. He subsequently released several albums on the Blue Note label, including "When the Heart Emerges Glistening" (2011) and "Origami Harvest" (2018). He has collaborated with artists such as Steve Coleman, Vijay Iyer, and Kendrick Lamar. In 2023, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA.
