America is a British-American rock band formed in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. The band is known for its close vocal harmonies and acoustic folk-rock sound. Their 1971 debut album, "America," included the hit "A Horse with No Name," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The following year's album, "Homecoming," featured the hit "Ventura Highway." Throughout the 1970s, they released other successful songs such as "Tin Man," "Lonely People," and "Sister Golden Hair." The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1973. Dan Peek left the group in 1977, but Bunnell and Beckley continued recording and touring.
