Andris Nelsons is a Latvian conductor who has served as the music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 2014 and as the Gewandhauskapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra since 2018. Born in Riga in 1978, he began his career as a trumpeter in the Latvian National Opera. He later served as the music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Nelsons is renowned for his recordings of Dmitri Shostakovich's symphonies with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which have earned multiple Grammy Awards. His collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon includes complete recordings of Ludwig van Beethoven's symphonies with the Vienna Philharmonic and a cycle of Anton Bruckner's symphonies with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
