Artur Pizarro is a Portuguese pianist born in Lisbon in 1968. He gave his first public performance at the age of three and made his television debut at four. He studied under Sequeira Costa, a pupil of José Vianna da Motta, one of Franz Liszt's last students. Pizarro won first prizes at the 1987 Vianna da Motta International Music Competition and the 1990 Leeds International Pianoforte Competition. He has performed with leading orchestras and conductors worldwide, including Sir Simon Rattle and Esa-Pekka Salonen. His extensive discography includes recordings for Linn Records, Naxos, and Hyperion. Pizarro is renowned for his interpretations of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Ravel.
