empty cell Asger Hamerik
Asger Hamerik was a Danish late Romantic composer who studied under Niels Gade and J.P.E. Hartmann in Copenhagen, later with Hans von Bülow in Berlin and Hector Berlioz in Paris. From 1871 to 1898, he served as the director of the Peabody Institute Conservatory in Baltimore, USA. His oeuvre includes seven symphonies, notably "Symphonie poétique" (Symphony No. 1), "Symphonie tragique" (Symphony No. 2), and "Symphonie lyrique" (Symphony No. 3). Hamerik's music reflects French influences and often features an "idée fixe," similar to the works of his mentor Berlioz. His "Requiem" is considered one of his most significant compositions.
