Baloji is a Belgian rapper, singer, and film director of Congolese origin. Born in Lubumbashi in 1978, he moved to Belgium at a young age. He began his music career as MC Balo in the hip-hop group Starflam, releasing several albums, including the platinum-certified "Survivant" in 2001. After leaving the group in 2004, he embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album "Hotel Impala" in 2008. This was followed by "Kinshasa Succursale" (2011), "64 Bits and Malachite" (2015), and "137 Avenue Kaniama" (2018). Baloji is known for his unique blend of hip-hop, Afrobeat, and soul. In 2023, he made his directorial debut with the film "Augure" ("Omen"), which won the New Voice Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
