Bedřich Smetana (1824–1884) was a Czech composer regarded as the founder of Czech national music. His most renowned works include the opera "The Bartered Bride" (1866) and the symphonic poem cycle "Má vlast" (1874–1879), featuring the famous piece "Vltava". Smetana was also a prominent conductor and pianist. Despite becoming completely deaf in 1874, he continued composing, producing some of his most significant works.
