Ben Bernie was an American jazz violinist, bandleader, and radio personality, known as "The Old Maestro". Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, he studied at Columbia University and the New York College of Music. In the 1920s and 1930s, he led a popular orchestra that served as the resident band at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Bernie co-authored the jazz standard "Sweet Georgia Brown". His orchestra recorded for labels such as Vocalion, Brunswick, Columbia, and Decca. Among his biggest hits are "Sleepy Time Gal" and "Ain't She Sweet". Bernie passed away in 1943 in Hollywood, California.
