Big Jay McNeely was an American R&B saxophonist known for his energetic playing style and extravagant performances. In 1949, he achieved a number one spot on the Billboard R&B chart with "The Deacon's Hop." Throughout his career, he recorded for various labels, including Savoy, Aladdin, and Imperial. His 1959 track "There Is Something on Your Mind," featuring vocals by Little Sonny Warner, became a significant hit. McNeely was renowned for his "honking" saxophone style, and his performances influenced many musicians, including Jimi Hendrix.
