Billy Mackenzie was a Scottish singer and songwriter, best known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the post-punk and new wave band The Associates. The band achieved commercial success in 1982 with the album "Sulk" and singles "Party Fears Two" and "Club Country". After the departure of bandmate Alan Rankine in 1982, Mackenzie continued recording under The Associates name until 1990. He later collaborated with various artists and released a solo album, "Outernational", in 1992. Mackenzie passed away in 1997 at the age of 39.
