Booker T. & the M.G.'s were an American instrumental R&B and funk band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1962. The original members were Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Lewie Steinberg (bass guitar), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums). The band was known as the house band for Stax Records, where they backed artists such as Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett. Their 1962 debut album, "Green Onions," featured the title track that became an international hit. Other notable albums include "Soul Dressing" (1965), "Hip Hug-Her" (1967), and "Melting Pot" (1971).
