Brian Melvin is an American jazz drummer, best known for his collaboration with bassist Jaco Pastorius, with whom he recorded five albums. Among these is "Night Food" from 1985, the only one released during Pastorius's lifetime. The album also features Rick Smith, Paul Mousavizadeh, Jeff Osammon, Aushim Chaudhuri, and Jim Loveless. Melvin is also the leader of the Beatlejazz project with pianist David Kikoski. His music blends elements of jazz and rock, contributing to the development of the jazz-rock genre.
