Brook Benton was an American singer and songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s. Born Benjamin Franklin Peay in South Carolina, he began his career in gospel choirs. In 1959, he signed with Mercury Records and achieved success with hits like "It's Just a Matter of Time" and "Endlessly". He collaborated with Dinah Washington on songs such as "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)" and "A Rockin' Good Way". In 1970, he had another major hit with "Rainy Night in Georgia".
