Bruce Hornsby and the Range was an American rock band formed in 1984 by singer and pianist Bruce Hornsby. Their 1986 debut album, "The Way It Is," featured the title track that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1988, they released "Scenes from the Southside," which included the hit "The Valley Road." Their music blended rock, soft rock, and elements of jazz. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1987. After releasing their third album, "A Night on the Town," in 1990, Hornsby decided to pursue a solo career.
