Candi Staton is an American singer and songwriter known for hits like "Stand by Your Man" and "Young Hearts Run Free". Born in Hanceville, Alabama, she began her career in gospel music with the Jewell Gospel Trio. In the 1970s, she transitioned to R&B and disco, collaborating with producer Rick Hall at FAME Studios. Her 1976 album "Young Hearts Run Free" reached No. 14 on the US R&B chart. In the 1980s, she returned to gospel music and later revisited R&B and soul.
