Carolus Hacquart was a Flemish composer and gambist, born around 1640 in Bruges, who later worked in the Netherlands. His works include the 1678 opera "De Triomfeerende Min," celebrating the Peace of Nijmegen. He is also known for his 1686 collection "Chelys," containing suites for viola da gamba. Hacquart served as an organist in a hidden Roman Catholic church in The Hague and was part of Constantijn Huygens' circle. His contributions to 17th-century Dutch music are significant, particularly in opera and chamber music.
