Description

Ariwo is a Cuban-Iranian quartet focused on the rich intersection between electronic music, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and Iranian mysticism. Their debut album, 'Ariwo', released on June 30, 2017, is the second release on Manana Records, inspired by the groundbreaking Manana Festival in Santiago de Cuba in 2016. The band brings together Iranian electronic composer Pouya Ehsaei and three of London's most influential Cuban musicians: percussion virtuoso Hammadi Valdes, trumpeter Yelfris Valdes, and percussionist Oreste Noda. Their goal is to connect their native musical traditions to electronic music, creating a sound that does not belong to any specific culture. The 'Ariwo' album is a captivating journey through genres like yambú, songo, guaguancó, and changüí, with echoes of Havana's legendary conga processions. Ehsaei processes live instruments in real-time, creating a hypnotic dialogue that elevates these rich ancestral traditions.
