PORTALS VOL. 2: RETURNING is the second installment in saxophonist Caroline Davis's series, released on September 20, 2024. This album is dedicated to her grandmother, British poet Joan "Lady" Anson-Weber (1927–2010), who was a direct inspiration for Davis's artistic journey. The album features compositions written for her current quintet, comprising leading American jazz musicians: Marquis Hill (trumpet), Julian Shore (piano), Chris Tordini (acoustic bass), and Allan Mednard (drums). Guest artists include flutist Nicole Mitchell and vocalists Jen Shyu, Nappy Nina, Julia Easterlin, and Alexa Barchini, who honor "Lady's" poetry through spoken word and song. The album is available on CD in a three-panel digipack with a booklet containing liner notes and photos.
