TRE serves as a bridge between the old and the new: this album features both early music and brand-new original compositions inspired by folk and early music. Given the limited solo repertoire for the triple harp, Lise Vandersmissen has transcribed and arranged existing pieces, adding her own compositions. TRE means "three" in Italian, referring to the Italian triple harp, invented in late sixteenth-century Naples, which has three parallel rows of strings. Today, this instrument is primarily used in continuo sections. Fascinated by its unique timbres and technical possibilities, Lise Vandersmissen aims to reintroduce the triple harp as a solo instrument. TRE is her second solo album; her debut album "TRANSFORMED," featuring her own transcriptions for the modern pedal harp, was released in 2023. Lise resides with her harps on a blue houseboat along London's canals and rivers. When not playing the harp, she enjoys knitting jumpers and running along the canal.
