Description

HOMAGES is a CD by pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, released on September 9, 2016. This album explores works where composers pay tribute to their predecessors. Mendelssohn and Franck revisit the prelude and fugue form popularized by Bach, while Busoni boldly reimagines Bach's famous Chaconne for violin into a piano transcription. Chopin breathes new life into the traditional Venetian barcarolle, and Liszt honors Italian folk song in his piece Venezia e Napoli. The digital edition also includes Ravel's suite Le Tombeau de Couperin, which pays homage to the Baroque style. Grosvenor's interpretation received the Diapason d'Or award and was described as a "superlative tribute to the art of the piano."
