Charles Brown was an American singer and pianist who influenced West Coast blues in the 1940s and 1950s. His best-known recordings include "Driftin' Blues" and "Merry Christmas Baby". Between 1949 and 1952, he had seven top 10 hits on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart. Brown's music combined elements of blues, R&B, and soul, influencing many later artists. He collaborated with performers such as Amos Milburn and Johnny Moore's Three Blazers. His contribution to music was recognized in 1999 when he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
