Charles Tolliver is an American trumpeter, composer, and educator who emerged on the jazz scene in the 1960s. In 1971, he co-founded the Strata-East label, which became a significant platform for hard bop and spiritual jazz. His notable albums include "Paper Man" (1968), "Live at Slugs'" (1970), and "Impact" (1975). In 2020, he released the album "Connect" with a quartet featuring Binker Golding on tenor saxophone. Tolliver is known for his powerful tone and complex compositions, which have influenced many jazz musicians.
