Charley Patton was an American blues singer and guitarist, considered one of the most influential figures in Delta blues. Born in April 1891 in Hinds County, Mississippi, he spent most of his life in the Mississippi Delta. Patton was known for his gravelly voice and percussive guitar playing style. His most notable recordings include "Pony Blues," "High Water Everywhere," and "Screamin' and Hollerin' the Blues." His music influenced many later blues musicians, such as Howlin' Wolf, Son House, and Robert Johnson. Patton died on April 28, 1934, in Indianola, Mississippi.
