Charlie Barnet was an American jazz saxophonist and big band leader, known for his contributions to the swing era. Born in New York City, he achieved success in 1939 with his recording of "Cherokee". In 1944, he released "Skyliner", which became his signature tune. Barnet was among the first white bandleaders to employ Black musicians, including Lena Horne and Roy Eldridge. His music was influenced by the styles of Duke Ellington and Count Basie. After the decline of big bands, he pursued various careers but continued to play occasionally. His autobiography, "Those Swinging Years", was published in 1984.
