Children of the Mushroom was a psychedelic rock band formed in 1967 in Thousand Oaks, California. Originally known as The Captives, the group changed their name to reflect their new psychedelic sound. In 1968, they released the single "August Mademoiselle" / "You Can't Erase a Mirror" under Soho Records, which became a sought-after collector's item. They later shortened their name to The Mushroom and began playing a heavier psychedelic style similar to Iron Butterfly. In 1970, they renamed themselves Lady and incorporated progressive rock influences, recording several studio demos in Los Angeles in 1971. Their music is characterized by heavy fuzz guitars, Hammond organ, and powerful vocals.
