Coleman Hawkins was an American jazz saxophonist, known as the "father of the tenor saxophone". He was born in 1904 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He began his career in the 1920s and became a pioneer in the use of the tenor saxophone in jazz. His most famous recording is "Body and Soul" from 1939, which became one of the most significant jazz pieces. Hawkins collaborated with many notable musicians, including Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis. His contribution to jazz is invaluable, and his style influenced many later saxophonists.
