Darius Milhaud was a French composer and member of the group Les Six. Born in Marseille, he studied at the Paris Conservatory. His work includes over 400 compositions, including the ballet "La Création du Monde" and the opera "Le Pauvre Matelot". Milhaud was known for his use of polytonality and influences from Brazilian music, which he acquired during his diplomatic stay in Brazil. He served as a professor at Mills College in California and at the Paris Conservatory, where he influenced many composers, including Dave Brubeck and Iannis Xenakis.
