'GIFTS' is the latest album by renowned trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas, released on May 3, 2024. This album presents a unique fusion of jazz and post-rock, featuring Douglas alongside tenor saxophonist James Brandon Lewis and members of the trio Son Lux – guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang. Together, they create a harmonically rich sound without bass, with Bhatia's experimental guitar providing an innovative framework for the melodic interactions between trumpet and saxophone. The album includes Douglas's original compositions and fresh interpretations of Billy Strayhorn classics like 'Take the 'A' Train' and 'Blood Count', delivered with a modern twist.
