Dean Gitter was an American folk singer and producer, best known for his 1957 album "Ghost Ballads," which features traditional songs with supernatural themes. He produced Odetta's debut album "Odetta Sings Ballads and Blues" and, under the pseudonym Dean Laurence, produced Sam Gary's album. In 2014, he released "Old Folkies Never Die," marking a 57-year gap since his debut. Gitter was also an entrepreneur and real estate developer in the Catskills, New York, where he founded the Orson Welles Cinema and other ventures. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 83.
